Our 1 day canal trip starting at The Navigation Inn in Cosgrove should take no longer than 8 hours to complete. Canoeing from the bridge towards Cosgrove, there is only 1 lock to navigate in Cosgrove. Shortly you will be canoeing over the Iron Trunk Aquaduct with a 40 foot drop to the River Great Ouse. Canoe to the left here and stay close to the path, venture to the right hand side is not safe and not reccommended. Why not stop here for a quick break and learn all about the history on how the Victorians built this magnificant structure over 200 years ago. Explore the iconic Grand Union Canal Iron Trunk Aqueduct which was opened in 1811. It is one of the oldest iron structures on Britain’s canals and was a triumph of engineering, cutting out a tricky river crossing for the boatmen on the canal. Learn how they built it by hand and how they navigated the Grand Union Canal before it was built. See if you can find 1 of the 8 original sited locks used before the iron trunk aqueduct was opened in 1811. Shortly after the Iron Trunk Aquaduct is the Galleon Pub before canoeing past the back of Wolverton Works, home place to the railway system. These building are list and some coach works are still active within these Victorian buildings today. Canoeing under Stratford road bridge at the end of the works to the right is The Secret Garden where the works most senior managemet lived up to the early 1900's. There are some historical foundations here with information. Nearing the end of your trip you will be canoeing over the Grafton Street Aqueduct built by Edmund Nuttall Limited in 1991 for Milton Keynes Development Corporation and designed by Pell Frischmann Milton Keynes Limited. This Aqueduct was built to accommodate the new V6 Grafton Street built below for the new developing Milton Keynes. 400 meters past the Aqueduct is the New Inn pub.
From the New Inn Pub you, will be canoing in the open country side once New Bradwell is behind you, enjoy this peaceful time canoeing. If time permits stop off and see where Stantonbuy Village once stood, over a mile away from the new Stantobuy estate. see the ruins of St Peters. Soon you will reach the Black Horse pub.
Continuing on from the Black Horse pub, you will canoe past Great Linford Manor Park until reaching The Giffard Park Pub which indicates the finishing point for this trip.
